Panic Attacks and Hypnotherapy

Is Hypnotherapy an Effective Way to Treat Panic Attacks?

PanicAttack-DivineMindInstituteMany people have been rushed to the Emergency Room thinking they were having a heart attack, but in reality they learned they were experiencing a panic attack…Panic attacks can be so frightening you think you’re having a heart attack. If you have ever experienced this kind of anxiety, you’ll know what I’m talking about, it’s something you don’t ever want to go through again! But most likely, if it’s happened once, it will happen again.

What does a Panic Attack Look Like?

Panic attacks are brought on by different things for different people. They are “fight or flight” responses and are difficult to “come down” from; because it feels threatened, your mind goes into a heightened state of fear, and extreme anxiety can take over and you may experience such symptoms as:

  • Erratic breathing – you feel like you can’t breathe because your chest feels so tight, or you hyperventilate by overbreathing (which actually can make the situation worse.)
  • Anxiety over being in public or enclosed places
  • Feeling like you are losing control
  • Fear of getting stopped in traffic, at a red light or on a bridge
  • Worrisome thoughts that seem to plague you and won’t go away
  • Your heart is racing
  • Feeling sweaty, lightheaded, or dizzy
  • You may feel like you’re choking or unable to swallow
  • You may feel sick to your stomach, nauseous, or have hot flashes

These symptoms can be very intense, in fact, they can be so intense that you may feel detached from your body, your surroundings or your situation. They can last for up to  20 minutes, and some symptoms may remain for as long as 2 hours. The first time you experience a panic attack, it leaves a strong impression on your psyche, generating a new fear, the fear of having another attack – it’s like a loop of anxiety.

Hypnotherapy is Effective in Treating Panic Attacks!

HypnotherapyTreatment-DivineMindInsitituteTreating panic attacks with Hypnotherapy is similar to the way anxiety is treated. By accessing your subconscious mind and through the power of suggestion, hypnotherapy can teach you how to calm your state of mind, reduce your feelings of worry and fear, and help you deal with overwhelming feelings and emotions.

Hypnosis Helps Postpartum Depression

Can Hypnosis Help Postpartum Depression?

PostPartumDepression-DivineMindInstitureOf all the complications from childbirth, in today’s world, Postpartum Depression (PPD) is the most common. It is estimated that between 10% – 20% of women in the United States, after childbirth, are suffering with PPD. What most people don’t realize is that it can affect women either during or after giving birth.

A majority of new moms get the “baby blues” for a few days after childbirth, but PPD lasts longer, is more severe, more serious and can interfere with your daily activities.

The signs and symptoms of PPD can be very serious and should not be ignored:

  • Having feelings of sadness, emptiness, hopelessness, moodiness, irritability, anxiety or restlessness
  • Unusual amounts of crying
  • Eating too much or not eating enough
  • Difficulty making decisions or concentrating
  • Frequently feeling angry or full of rage
  • Doubting yourself, especially doubting that you can care for your baby
  • Unable to bond with your baby
  • Uninterested in things or activities that you normally enjoy
  • Having sleep problems, you may oversleep or you may not be able to sleep when your baby is
  • Thinking about harming your baby, yourself, or both

Some of these symptoms seem like everyday feelings, but when they are in conjunction with other symptoms, are intense, and last too long, you should seek help. As a new mother you should never feel shame, or embarrassment…it’s not your fault, it is not a personal flaw, there are outside factors that can lead to PPD:

  • Mental health issues in your family line
  • Changes in hormones after childbirth
  • Psychological adjustment to motherhood, accompanied by fatigue
  • Changes in relationships
  • Lack of support
  • Outside stresses such as finances, job related issues, illness or death

The Effects of Hypnosis on PPD

HypnosisEffects on PPD-DivineMindInstituteHypnosis is very powerful, because it works directly with the subconscious mind…it essentially changes how your brain interprets feelings and thoughts, and can therefore become a very effective way of treating PPD.

Postpartum Depression affects the emotional part of the brain, overpowering rational thinking. During hypnosis, your subconscious will be allowed to get rid of irrational thinking and once again be allowed to have rational thoughts – replacing negative with positive (called reframing). Hypnosis can help you eliminate the feelings of anxiety, guilt and fear and allows you to be the mother you hoped you’d be.

Don’t let PPD take over this special time of your life…

Self Confidence

How Can You Build Your Self Confidence and Self Esteem?

“It’s not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life, it’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power!”Robert T. Kiosaki

Build Self Confidence - Divine Mind IntsituteWhat do you whisper to yourself?

Are you your own worst critic? Do you respect yourself? Do you respect your achievements? Do you value yourself?

The only one of those questions you should have answered “no” to is the first one.

How you feel about yourself and whether or not you believe in yourself determines your level of self confidence. We’re not talking about your ego, we’re talking about your self- worth, your emotional self image.

Lack of self confidence

When you have low self confidence, you usually focus on weaknesses rather than all the positive things about yourself. You are critical of yourself, you have a more difficult time coping with the challenges of everyday life, and eventually relationships, and your mental and physical health can be effected.

Look outside yourself to determine why your confidence is low, because it usually comes from outside sources:

  • A bad experience
  • Big disappointments
  • NoSelfEsteem-DivineMindInstituteChildhood experiences
    • Harsh and unfair criticism
    • Any type of abuse
    • Being taught that you are a failure if you had failed experiences
    • Being shunned by your peers
  • Traumatic events can leave you feeling you are not in control of your own life, or make you feel that you are to blame for whatever happened.
  • Today’s unrealistic perceptions of what beauty and success looks like makes you doubt yourself and gives you the feeling that no matter what, you can’t measure up.

Your subconscious mind stores all of your experiences, especially from your youth, both positive and negative, it remembers everything you’ve ever heard, seen or done. When this stored data reminds you of strong negative feelings, you feel less about yourself than you really are.

Some of the signs that your lack of self confidence or self esteem has taken over your life:

  • Not being satisfied with your life, always wishing it was better
  • Feeling bored, always tired, hopeless or depressed
  • Feeling you have nothing to look forward to
  • Considering yourself to be a failure
  • Always feeling fearful of making a mistake or of receiving criticism
  • You always feel defensive

How Can hypnosis Help?

Because of the problems that low self-esteem can cause you, it’s so very important that you seek help to keep the long term problems I mentioned above from developing. And due to the fact that low self confidence is rooted in your subconscious mind, hypnosis is the perfect way to get the help you need. It can help you understand your own worth.

Roadblocks to Self Confidence - Divine Mind InstituteIt is your subconscious that determines everything you think, say and do. And because it remembers everything you have ever experienced and how it affected you, it determines what you whisper to yourself, which either builds you up or tears you down.

NLP and Hypnosis are powerful tools that will help you tear down the road blocks that have kept your self image low.

Hypnosis is a peaceful feeling in a safe and relaxing place where you are able to identify what obstacles are keeping you from accepting yourself in a positive way. It can help eliminate the negative self-talk (which will be the topic of a future blog post) that goes on in your head all the time.

Just imagine the wonderful person that you really are!

Coping With Stress

How Can You Cope With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Coping With Stress - Divine Mind InstitutePost Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a very real condition, one that is difficult to understand unless you have experienced it yourself or have observed it in someone close to you.

It’s hard to believe that someone with PTSD is in such emotional pain and anxiety, feels so totally alone, and feels that no one cares or understands.

Once called Battle Fatigue or Shell Shock, PTSD can have serious and lasting consequences if not dealt with. The symptoms can change a person’s quality of life.

Oftentimes adding to their stress, PTSD victims wonder why they aren’t coping better, which leads them to try to hide their sorrow, depression or stress.

In a desperate attempt to find relief from their symptoms, the sufferer may resort to such extreme activities as acting out violently, consuming too much alcohol, drug abuse or gambling.

What Causes PTSD?

For most of us, when we think of PTSD, we associate it with soldiers who have spent time in combat situations, situations that have placed a huge amount of stress and anxiety upon them. • Rape victims
  • Victims of Assault
  • Physical Abuse victims or witnesses

  • Victims of Terrorism
    • Such as 9-11 survivors
  • Civilians surviving war
    • Can you imagine the stress of hearing bombs exploding in your neighborhood?

Stop Stress

How Can You Stop the Distress of Stress?

Stress-DivineMindInstituteLike most disorders; fear, inability to sleep, being anxious, feeling stress and many others, we all experience them at one time or another. But when one of these disorders becomes a way of life, that’s when it becomes something that can affect us in a more profound way…it can change the quality of our life.

Constant stress is one of those life changing things. As you try to cope with all that life throws at you: deadlines, family needs, time schedules and all the other many demands, it’s no wonder why you feel stressed.

Good Stress – Bad Stress

Stress can be a motivator that helps you accomplish things that need to be done…it’s called performing under pressure. But when stress levels are too high it no longer motivates, but can wear you down. When this happens, you are experiencing stress that can have harmful effects on you, it can cause:

  •  Depression
  • Addictions
  • Illness such as dizziness, nausea, stomach problems
  • Negative outlook on life
  • Forgetfulness
  • Lack of good judgement
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of loneliness and being overwhelmed

Extreme levels of stress can impair your performance in all areas of your life and make you feel like you are functioning on overload and out of control.

Inner Child Therapy

What is Inner Child Therapy, and Can it Help You?

InnerChild-DivineMindInstituteEveryone one of us has an inner child within us… memories of events or experiences from our childhood, often tucked so deep within our subconscious mind that our conscious mind doesn’t always remember them. Although the event may not be consciously remembered, the impact of the event, which is stored in your subconscious, plays an important part in our everyday lives.

These experiences have contributed to your core beliefs, whether about you, someone else or particular situations. They play a big part in the decisions you make and the way you react to different situations. Their effect is triggered by current challenges you may be facing.

Positive experiences from our early childhood, such as praise, encouragement, hugs and kisses from those we love and trust help build your self confidence, self-image and self-esteem.

Negative experiences such as being ignored, physically or verbally abused or being made to feel unnecessary or unwanted can cause emotional damages that may never heal on their own.

Impact of Childhood Trauma

Negative experiences actually wound your inner child, and can prevent you from achieving your full potential as an adult.

Incidents from early childhood trauma can manifest themselves in various ways:

  • Depression
  • Fear
  • Phobias
  • Anger Issues
  • Addictions
  • Lack of Self-Worth
  • Inhibition
  • Self-Defeating Attitude and Actions
  • Guilt
  • Anxiety
  • Weight Issues

Hypnosis works with your subconscious mind, the very place your childhood wounds are stored. Misophonia

Can Hypnotherapy Help Misophonia?

Misophonia-Divine Mind Insititute“If I hear that sound again, I’m going to scream!”

“Stop making that noise…it’s driving me crazy!”

There are sounds that each of us prefer not to hear…squeaking chalk on the chalkboard…but Misophonia is a condition that is far beyond that.

Misophonia is kind of a funny word, but it’s definitely not a funny condition! It’s an extreme sensitivity to different noises or sounds, not just a mild irritation.

About the Sounds and Noises:

The sounds don’t have to be loud or grating, they are noises we hear everyday. They are typically noises made by other people, and can be as simple as someone clearing their throat, eating or drinking.

These noises can cause you to become irritable, irate and even sometimes irrational.

People who struggle with it often feel:

  • Anxious
  • Angry
  • Depressed
  • Disgusted
  • Rage
  • Stress
  • Panic

These sounds can cause you to avoid people or situations, and if you’re in a situation and the offending noise begins, you might find yourself trying to escape or worse yet, being offensive to the person causing the sound.

Misophonia Interview on 20/20

In the interview it was mentioned that this condition is probably caused by the way the brain is processing the sounds. What better reason to use hypnotherapy, a treatment that works with your subconscious mind?

During your hypnotherapy session, you will be in a relaxed state, where together we can discover what triggers are causing your reaction to specific sounds.

You need to know you are not imagining things, you are not alone and you’re definitely not going crazy! Misophonia is real, and you can get help.
